Construction Updates: Fort Worth Campus

We’re growing to better serve our patients, families and staff with the expansion of our medical center in Fort Worth. As construction progresses, you may notice temporary changes to parking and walking paths around campus. We know these adjustments can be inconvenient, and we’re committed to keeping you informed every step of the way so your visit can be as smooth as possible. 

Please allow at least 15 extra minutes to get to your intended appointments. If you are running late, be sure to call the department as soon as possible, and inform them how late you may be. Please drive safely and be mindful of pedestrians around the campus.  

Construction and traffic details

IMPORTANT: Upcoming closure of Dillard Garden and 7th Avenue

Starting April 14, Dillard Garden and 7th Avenue between Cooper Street and Terrell Avenue will be closed permanently.

Parking for patients

  • Cook Children's Medical Center: Park in the 7th Avenue garage. Entrance is on 7th Avenue just south of Pennsylvania Avenue.
  • Dodson Specialty Clinics: Park in the P1 garage on 8th Avenue and Pennsylvania Avenue. Entrance is on Pennsylvania Avenue just east of 8th Avenue.
  • 901 Building: A few of our patients may have appointments in the 901 7th Avenue building. Please use the Terrell Avenue garage. Entrance is on Terrell Avenue, the first driveway just east of 7th Avenue.
    • For those who need to walk from the 901 building/south side of campus to the north, please see the walking route button below.

Pedestrian impacts

  • Sidewalks on the west and east side of this portion of 7th Avenue will also be permanently closed.
  • The sidewalk on the south side of Cooper Street will be closed until further notice.

Pedestrian access to the Medical Center and Dodson

  • Access to Cook Children's Medical Center and Dodson Specialty Clinics from Terrell Avenue is available via 6th Avenue and Pruitt Street.
    • Go east on Terrell Avenue.
    • Turn left on 6th Avenue at the Emergency Department.
      • Do not enter the Emergency Department. Increased traffic in this area delays critical life saving care.
    • Turn left on Pruitt Street.
    • Turn left into the north tower OR continue to 7th Avenue and turn left to access Dodson Specialty Clinics or the north tower west entrance.

Vehicle traffic updates

  • Cooper Street, roundabout and 7th Avenue: All lanes closed. Roundabout closed on southwest side.
    • Two way traffic on northeast side of roundabout. Follow flaggers, traffic lights and signs.
    • Cooper Street west of 7th Avenue closed.
    • 7th Avenue between Cooper Street and Terrell Avenue closed.
  • 8th Avenue between Cannon Street and Rosedale Street: 8th Avenue reduced to one lane each way. 
  • 8th Avenue and Rosedale Street: All lanes reduced to one lane each way.
    • No right turn from southbound 8th Avenue to westbound Rosedale Street.
    • No left turn from northbound 8th Avenueto westbound Rosedale Street until April 20.
    • No left turn from eastbound Rosedale Street to northbound 8th Avenue until April 20.
  • 7th Avenue between Terrell Avenue and Pulaski Street: Southbound lane closed for AT&T construction.
  • Terrell Avenue east of 7th Avenue: Reduced to two lanes, one lane each way.
  • Southland Avenue between 8th Avenue and 7th Avenue: All lanes closed.
  • Humbolt Street between 7th Avenue and 6th Avenue: All lanes closed.

  • Sidewalks closed:
    • North side of Terrell Avenue, east side of 8th Avenue, south side of Cooper Street, east and west sides of 7th Avenue around West Tower jobsite.
    • North side of Pulaski Street, west side of 6th Avenue and south side of Humbolt Street around SUP expansion jobsite.
  • Crosswalks closed:
    • West and south side of Cooper Street and 7th Avenue
    • North, west and east side of 7th Avenue and Terrell Avenue.
    • North and west side of 8th Avenue and Rosedale Street.

Learn why we're growing

As Fort Worth continues to experience rapid growth, the demand for specialized pediatric care has increased significantly. To address this need, Cook Children’s is preparing to embark on a 10-year master plan, beginning with the construction of a new 760,000-square-foot medical tower, referred to as the West Tower. This plan will allow for a new and improved Pediatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU), an expanded Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU), as well as additional capacity for our Hematology and Oncology Center, operating rooms, and imaging services.
